Meet Dr. Housman

Dr. Sarah Housman

Dr. Housman approaches the care of her patients by understanding them as a whole. She understands how the mind, body, and spirit integrate to create overall health. Her goal as an osteopathic physician is to apply her deep understanding of anatomy and physiology of the human body to guide her patients back to their innate health. She utilizes her knowledge of integrative medicine into her hands-on Osteopathic treatments so that her patients can take a multidirectional approach to their healing and optimal health.

Dr. Housman is grateful and excited to practice medicine in her hometown of Pueblo, Colorado. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Integrative Physiology from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She matriculated into medical school at Rocky Vista University in Parker, Colorado where she was selected for the Pre-doctoral Osteopathic Principles and Practices Fellowship. She spent an additional year teaching osteopathy to medical students, running a donation-based osteopathic manual medicine clinic and diving deeper into osteopathic studies through numerous trainings and courses.

Following medical school, she continued training on the East Coast at the Maine-Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency. She received full-spectrum family medicine training, treating patients of all ages in a variety of settings, including hospital, emergency room and rural outpatient family medicine clinic. She also gained extensive experience treating pregnant mothers and delivering babies. During family medicine residency, she also completed a three-year longitudinal curriculum in traditional Chinese acupuncture and obtained certification in integrative medicine through the University of Arizona. Throughout her many years of training, Dr. Housman has consciously approached her patients by seeking the root cause of medical imbalances and diseases.

Completion of residency and board certification in family medicine led Dr. Housman to her home state to complete an additional residency in Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine at Rocky Vista University where she specialized in the mechanics of the musculoskeletal system and engineering of the human body. As an osteopathic physician, she effectively incorporates the disciplines of anatomy, physiology, embryology and microbiology into the science and art of healing medicine through the use of her hands, perceiving the living anatomy and the intricate body functions of each patient. Dr. Housman also completed board certification through the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture. She finds the addition of acupuncture to oftentimes be invaluable to her patients.

As a mother herself, Dr. Housman has a special interest in treating women throughout their pregnancy and postpartum for healing and recovery. She emphasizes treatment of newborns and children, supporting them for healthy growth and development. She is passionate about working with lactation consultants, myofunctional therapists, dentists and pediatricians to help patients with tethered oral tissues (tongue-tie). She is currently working on a study with an osteopathic mentor identifying how the motion of the tongue improves for feeding before and after an osteopathic treatment. She has found osteopathy to be invaluable in helping mothers and babies bond from the earliest days after birth.

In addition to women and children, Dr. Housman treats a wide scope of patients with a variety of conditions, including migraines, chronic pain (neck, back, joint, muscular), insomnia, anxiety and nervous system imbalance, and digestive issues. She treats athletes recovering from concussion, other injury or for peak performance.

Outside of her medical practice, Dr. Housman is committed to her family, community and health. She and her husband enjoy playing tennis and volleyball, as well as spending time in nature. She loves to practice yoga and spend time with her family. She especially enjoys caring for their toddler and adorable puppy, Noodles.
