Frequently Asked Questions

We're here to help :)

What are the Clinic's Office Hours?

Visits at the clinic are by appointment only. Dr. Housman sees patients Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9am to 3pm. She also holds office hours some Saturdays between 9am and 1pm. Please click this link to be taken to the scheduling tool and see Dr. Housman's availability.

Can Dr. Housman be my Primary Care Provider (PCP)?

Although Dr. Housman is board-certified in family medicine, Osteopathic Medicine of Pueblo is a specialty practice in Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (ONMM). We do require that you maintain your primary care provider (PCP) for routine screening exams such as pap smears, colonoscopies, prostate exams, etc. and for urgent situations requiring immediate care or hospitalization. Dr. Housman is happy to work collaboratively with your PCP and/or specialists.

Do You Take My Insurance?

Dr. Housman is an out-of-network provider and does not directly bill your medical insurance. At the end of each appointment, you can request a superbill (medical receipt) that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits (Medicare/Medicaid not included).  As a small practice, this model allows us to provide the best care possible while maintaining low overhead. If you have one, we can accept payment through your health savings account (HSA) or flexible spending account (FSA).

What if I have Medicare or Medicaid?

We are happy to see patients on Medicare. However, federal regulations mandate that Medicare will not pay for care you receive from "opt-out providers" such as Dr. Housman, and patients are responsible for the entire cost of their care. Unfortunately, state-law prohibits us from treating members of Health First Colorado (Colorado's Medicaid Program). By becoming a patient with Osteopathic Medicine of Pueblo, you affirm that you are not a member of Health First Colorado.

Can Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) Help Me During My Pregnancy?

Absolutely! Dr. Housman is passionate about helping mothers feel better in their changing bodies throughout pregnancy and postpartum. The goal of osteopathic treatment during pregnancy is to find relief from discomfort and reduce tension and strain by allowing for mobility and ease of motion. Dr. Housman gently frees up restrictions within the body, helping to improve body mechanics, so mama and baby can be more comfortable. These treatments are individualized for you, depending on what is going on with your body, and may help your body in the process of labor and aid in quicker postpartum recovery.

Do Your Treatments Replace My Other Healthcare Professionals?

We do not intend our treatments to replace full medical workup and treatment for problems. It is assumed that you've been worked up for your medical problem and we will do our best to work in conjunction with your other doctors. Oftentimes, we can replace the need for other bodyworkers such as massage, chiropractic, and others, but we leave those decisions up to the patient.

How Should I Dress For My Appointment?

Although there is not specific dress code, we recommend you wear comfortable clothes that can stretch for your osteopathic treatment. Make sure that whatever you're wearing, you could go into a full stretch with. You will be asked to take off your shoes during the treatment.

What Do I Need To Do After My Treatment?

Because osteopathic treatment alters the dynamics of tensions held by the tissues and fluids, we recommend that patients “take it easy” for the first two to three days after each treatment. In other words, get adequate rest, limit or eliminate high impact or intense work-outs, avoid excessive alcohol or caffeine, and keep well hydrated with water. Your osteopath may give you other recommendations that are specific for you.

How Often Do I Need To Be Seen?

The treatment plan varies from patient to patient and problem to problem. For acute issues, we often see patients anywhere from once a week to once a month based on different factors. For controlled problems, we work together with patients to make those determinations during your visits.

What Other Services Do You Offer?

Our primary service is Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment, but we offer other services that work in conjunction with what we do to promote healing and optimal health. Dr. Housman may utilize acupuncture, trigger point injections, neural therapy injections, joint injections, functional medicine and nutritional advice depending on the needs of the patient.

What If I Don’t Want To Schedule Online?

No problem! You can call our office and we will return your call within 24 hours to schedule an appointment over the phone.
